Ballet career under the direction of Tom Schilling
Gonzalo Galguera was born in Camagüey, Cuba, where he began his training and professional career as a ballet dancer under the direction of Fernando Alonso at the National Ballet School of Cuba. After being part of the youth ensembles at the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Ballet de Camagüey, Ballet Municipal de Lima and Ballet Clásico de Madrid María de Ávila, Galguera joined the Staatsballett Berlin (Komische Oper), Germany as a soloist. There he danced most of his ballet career under the direction of Tom Schilling.

Ballet director of the Ballet Dessau
Gonzalo Galguera has been experimenting with choreography since he was a student. There he found his passion for dance and created his first choreographies for the school.
In 2001, Gonzalo Galguera was promoted to Ballet Director of Ballet Dessau (Germany). There he challenged the company’s artistic vision.
With narrative ballets, symphonic works and contemporary pieces, he led the ensemble to success.
Helped Ballet Magdeburg to international recognition
Since 2006 he has worked as ballet director and chief choreographer at the Magdeburg Ballet (Germany), where his choreographic work has reached its peak to date.
Through the extensive work he devotes to the Magdeburg Ballet, Gonzalo Galguera has helped the ensemble to a position in the ballet world that is recognized throughout Germany and internationally.

Jury member at many international ballet competitions
In the years 2015 to 2018 Gonzalo Galguera took over the ballet and artistic direction of the Compañia Colombiana de Ballet (INCOLBALLET). He also shaped this ensemble with his unmistakable signature and gave it new impetus. Gonzalo Galguera is a member of the jury at many international ballet competitions in Europe, as well as a guest choreographer in many ballet companies around the world.
